Inmedius | ASD S1000D Standard

The purpose of this S1000D white paper is to provide an understanding of the new features in Issue 4.0 of the Specification and how its implementation may impact your current and future projects.

This S1000D white paper is based on the Inmedius S1000D Webinar, S1000D Issue 4.0: What It Means to You, presented online by Sean Rushing, Inmedius Director of S1000D Products and Services. Mr. Rushing joined Inmedius in 2005 after serving as a Senior Software Engineer at a major defense company where he oversaw the development of technical publications solutions and managed software developers. Rushing has been a member of the S1000D Electronic Publications Working Group (EPWG), and has contributed to the U.S. S1000D working groups. He has a high level of skill with a range of technical publishing standards and a diverse background in publishing technologies.

First, we cover a brief history of S1000D prior to Issue 4.0 and the drivers behind this major update to the Specification. Also discussed is the reasoning behind the alterations and additions incorporated into Issue 4.0. Various new concepts are outlined and explained, along with a quick review of other changes included in Issue 4.0. Finally, we take a view of potential future developments and changes to the Specification.

In closing, we discuss how Inmedius is addressing the changes in the Specifications and its implications in regard to the Inmedius S1000D Publishing Suite™, the fully integrated, seven-module lifecycle software solution. The Suite’s unique design and flexible data architecture allowed Inmedius to be the first to support Issue 1.7 through 4.0 of the Specification.
